Janet Jump is Assistant Professor in the College of Education at Newman University. She maintains a passionate belief that education can transform the lives of our future leaders, and that we can develop and support educators so that every child will have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. Her educational career has encompassed all levels of educational leadership, development and management. She started out teaching at the elementary education level before working as an elementary principal. As a principal, she wrote Comprehensive School Reform grants designed to increase student academic and behavior achievement. Their success resulted in recognitions including the Kansas Standard of Excellence Award for both Reading and Math, National Title I Award, and National Blue Ribbon School Designation. She served as President of the Wichita Educational Administrations Association and Wichita Association for Elementary Principals. During her tenure with USD 259, she moved to the district level serving on the District Leadership Team, coordinating the development of the district MTSS Behavior Protocol, and working as a Title I Principal on Special Assignment to provide school improvement opportunities to the state’s lowest performing schools. In this position, she wrote grants, coached school administrators and their MTSS Leadership Teams in school improvement, KansaStar technology, and research based strategies. She conducted and coordinated professional learning opportunities, and assisted with the data collection, analysis and problem solving process. She also coordinated district extended year/extended day academic programs. She facilitated professional development opportunities bringing in nationally recognized researchers including Dr. Anita Archer and Dr. Randy Sprick. She then joined KSDE and Kansas Learning Network as a state implementation coach assisting school MTSS Leadership Teams in the development and implementation of school improvement plans. Jump has presented at many state conferences and worked closely with legislation to advocate for education. She has received numerous recognition's and awards for her work in education, including the coveted Milken Award, Kansas Staff Development Award, Semi-Finalist for the National Staff Development Award, and KAPHERD Administrator of the Year Award.
